Singapore Airlines orders 30 A350-900 more and signs option for further 20 A350-1000s.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced that it has signed an agreement to order up to 30 A350-900s plus options for a further 20 aircraft that could be selected between both A350-1000 or A350-900 when exercising the options.
This is the 3rd order from Singapore Airlines for the A350 XWB with a total firm orders of 70 aircraft, excluding options.

“The latest announcement from Singapore Airlines is another major endorsement for the A350 XWB,” said John Leahy, COO Customers, Airbus. “As we move closer to first flight, demand for the A350 XWB continues to grow, especially for the larger models. Airbus is set to bring a step-change to the mid-size widebody market and we are proud to have Singapore Airlines on board in such a big way.”

To date Airbus has recorded 616 firm orders for the A350 XWB from 34 customers worldwide.

SIA wants to be the launch customer of the already-not-launched 787-10X.
In parallel, Singapore Airlines will order 30 787-10X aircraft under the condition that Boeing formally launches the 787-10X program. SIA says its agreement with Boeing stipulates it will receive the first 787-10X aircraft before 30/March/2019

The order for large capacity medium-haul aircraft is a sign that SIA sees growth potential on routes within Asia Pacific and to the Middle East.
SIA CEO, Goh Choon Phong, says: “Today’s aircraft orders are among the biggest in SIA’s history, helping to ensure that we retain our industry leading position. They demonstrate our commitment to the Singapore hub and our confidence in the future for premium full-service travel.”
